Welcome to
Congregation Agudas Achim

Ben Halpern, 1996

We welcome you to our website and to visit our congregation in the beautiful Catskill Mountains of New York. "Agudas Achim" means "a gathering of brothers and sisters."

The mission of our temple is to provide a liberal Jewish presence in our community and to facilitate the Jewish spiritual growth of our members. The congregation is affiliated with the Union for Reform Judaism and serves approximately 100 families. Teenagers from The Family School of Hancock, NY, are active participants in our congregation.

Under the spiritual leadership of Rabbi Fred Pomerantz we welcome all who seek knowledge about, or a relationship with, the Jewish faith and people. Worship services include beautiful music led by Cantorial Soloist Marian Kleinman. Our educational program, led by Dimona Galli, offers active educational programs leading up to b'nai mitzvah. More information about all aspects of our Study programs are available under the "Study" menu.

We conduct monthly Shabbat services, holiday observances, adult study meetings, Jewish celebrations, and life cycle events. Interfaith families and people of all faiths are welcome at any time. Please view our calendar for dates of specific events.

Our monthly Friday evening services generally begin at 7:30 PM and are usually on the first or second Friday of each month.

5770 Benefit Concert

Our Summer of 2010 Catskill Experience was a Resounding Success!

Ben Halpern, 1996

Our Agudas Achim benefit on July 29, 2010, was a resounding success!

* We built community.

Over 45 people volunteered to help out.

* We extended the reach of Agudas Achim.

Over 60 businesses and individuals lent support with program ads and sponsorships.

* We contributed to the entertainment options available in the area.

Over 330 people attended the evening.

* We replenished the Agudas Achim coffers, covering our deficit for the last fiscal year.

We were able to do this because we took a chance. We found we could accomplish more than we expected. We discovered that an audience exists out there. We learned that hard work can pay off. We carefully watched our expenses and we were blessed by the generosity of many people. The list of thank you’s is too long to include here. But we must mention a very special thank you to Rabbi Fred Pomerantz who initiated the idea for the evening format and secured Rabbi Bob Alper for the date. And we must also extend a hearty thank you to both Richard Chiger and Scott Eckers who wowed the audience with their talent and who donated their performances.
